Cinco De May Fiesta Bowl-A-Thon

posted May 6, 2005

Friday Harbor Soroptimist held their first annual Cinco De May Fiesta Bowl-A-Thon last night at Paradise Lanes. The net after expenses was over $5300. We had a wonderful time of Mexican food, music, bowling, great prizes items, raffle drawing, dancing and fundraising. Most everyone dressed in a festive fashion and Paradise Lanes was fully decorated to theme.

The Bowler results were: Bowler with greatest dollars raised – Ted Buganski. Bowler with greatest number of sponsors – Judy Cornell. Men’s highest game –Tom Burns. Women’s highest game – Janice Clarke. Men’s High Series – Paul Iovan. Women’s High Series – Lisa Zschiesche.

Our great thanks to all the people who sponsored the bowlers and to the businesses and individuals who donated to the fundraiser. Those donors include: Paradise Lanes, Cornell Construction, Classic Design, DiCristina Photography, Friday Harbor Realty, San Juan Colors, Far West Homes, Friday Harbor Freight, Edward Jones, Chicago Title, Westside Marine, The Toy Box, The Popcorn Lady, The Toggery, By Design, Lori Stokes, Haley's, Virginia Nash, The Tailor Shop, Claudia Piff, Islanders Bank, Robin Wadleigh, Cantrell Silver Co., Patty Brightman, Emily Reed, The Flying Burrito, The Hot Shop, ‘Cotton, Cotton, Cotton,’ Radio Shack, Market Place, Robin Jacobson, Lenore Bayuk and King Typesetting.

The fundraiser was for the Soroptimist Cancer Treatment Support Mission Project. The monies received will help fund transportation to the mainland from San Juan Island for islanders receiving cancer treatment. The target group is women who are diagnosed with cancer and need assistance getting treatment and are not funded by the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Funds will be used for ferry vouchers, mileage reimbursements and ground transportation. Air transportation will be provided by the San Juan Eagles, a non-profit organization of volunteer pilots who donate their time and airplanes for this cause.

Again, thanks to everyone who participated in the worthy event.
