FHHS Girls' Tennis Update 5/16/06

When I saw Rick Root at the Second Chance Prom Saturday night, I asked him how tennis had gone earlier in the day. He wrote up the following, so we'd know how well his girl Amanda and her teammates were doing, progressing in the playoffs. The players include Amanda Root, Lindsey Youngquist, Claire & Hannah Burke, and Madeline Carlson.

Here's the report:

Ian, I hope this makes it to you, and the photos are useable. Let me know if so, and we will keep searching the site! Oh yeah, some of the facts for Amanda & Lindsey’s doubles match:

• They were the #1 seed at first doubles and hence, had a first round bye.
• This tournament was a district seeding match.
• Their first game was is the second round, and they faced the #3 seed from Darrington (who advanced with their win over Coupeville)
• Amanda & Lindsey took the first set quite handily 6-0, however faced a little adversity in the second set as they were forced to a 12 game set, winning 7-5.
• In the third and championship bracket match, Amanda and Lindsey were matched up against their own teammates, Madeline Carlson & Hannah Burke. They won this match 6-2, 6-3.
• With the win in the Championship match, Amanda and Lindsey won an automatic birth into the Quad-District tournament this week in Seattle at the U.W. indoor facility!

Note: I know this is a prejudiced statement, but I honestly have never seen Amanda and Lindsey more focused on getting their goals accomplished and not concerning themselves with who was on the other side of the net! Their communication and constant upbeat attitudes has put them in the position they have worked all year for. I am not sure what the exact dates and times are for the tournament at the U.W., but I do know that Madeline & Hannah, as well as Claire Burke are going to have a chance to make it into the Quad-Districts if they can place in another opportunity back at Coupeville on Wednesday or Thursday of this week.

Regards,

Rick Root
