On Saturday night, June 9th, Friday Harbor Laboratories will hold its 7th annual ‘Jazz at the Labs’ - an evening of food, fun and great music at the Labs. As in the past, proceeds from ‘Jazz at the Labs’ will benefit the Friday Harbor Laboratories K-12 Science Outreach Program in the San Juan Island Elementary, Middle and High Schools and the Spring Street School.

This year’s program will begin with dinner from 6:00 – 7:00 P.M. During dinner, music will be provided by the popular San Juan Jazz Quintet. Led by Dennis Willows, the SJJQ will play sets of jazz, bop and Bossa Nova.

Starting at 7:00 P.M. Chris Amemiya’s Jazz Coalescence, the outstanding Jazz band from Seattle, made up of some of the preeminent jazz musicians in the Pacific Northwest, will take over.

Jazz Coalescence features jazz standards with their own special edge. Members of the band have played for top names (Lionell Hampton, Dizzy Gillespie, Gladys Knight), Broadway pit orchestras, regional symphony orchestras, house bands at such hot spots as Ryles Jazz Club (Boston) and Tula’s Jazz Club (Seattle), film soundtracks and recordings. They have individually won numerous music awards. In short….these guys can play!!!!

And Jim Wilke, host of KPLU’s Jazz After Midnight, will be recording the evening for future broadcast.
